By exploiting a smart card, this paper presents a robust and efficient password-authenticated key agreement scheme. This paper strengthens the security of the scheme by addressing untraceability property such that any third party over the communication channel cannot tell whether or not he has seen the same (unknown) smart card twice through the authentication sessions. The proposed remedy also prevents a kind of denial of service attack found in the original scheme. High performance and other good functionalities are preserved.

To provide an option of magnesium ammonium phosphate (MAP) crystallization for different recovery objective and treatment aim of separated stale human urine, five lab-scale tests were conducted, among which two of them acted as complete N and P recovery and three of them as partial N and complete P recovery, respectively. The results showed the recovery efficiencies of PO43--P were more than 85% when the molar ratio of Mg/N/P was above the needed stoichiometric proportion for MAP precipitation. Although higher recovery efficiencies of NH4+-N and PO43--P could be obtained by adding more phosphate and magnesium salts during MAP precipitation, there existed disadvantages such as inconvenient operation, hard to be put into practice, high operation cost, etc. Thus it was not recommended to completely recover NH4+-N and PO43--P simultaneously if there were no wastes containing high phosphorus on hand. All harvested precipitates were identified as nearly pure struvite with the presence of trace elements of K, Na, Ni, Mn, and Ca.

Dynamic voltage scaling (DVS) technique is a common industry practice in optimizing power consumption of microprocessors by dynamically altering the supply voltage under different operational modes, while maintaining the performance requirements. During DVS operation, it is desirable to position the output voltage to a new level commanded by the microprocessor (CPU) with minimum delay. However, voltage deviation and slow settling time usually exist due to large output capacitance and compensation delay in voltage regulators. Although optimal DVS can be achieved by modifying the output capacitance and compensation, this method is limited by constraints from stringent static and dynamic requirements. In this paper, the effects of output capacitance and compensation network on DVS operation are discussed in detail. An active compensator scheme is then proposed to ensure smooth transition of the output voltage without change of power stage and compensation during DVS. Simulation and experimental results are included to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed scheme.

An extended point-matching method for analyzing the shielded microstrip transmission lines with thick electrodes has been developed based on the method by Marcuse (1989). This method provides a simple and fast approach to the quasi-static analysis of the structures. The calculated fields are used to estimate the characteristic impedance and effective dielectric constant of the structures. The results agree well with available theoretical results obtained using other methods, such as the finite element method and the boundary element method. This method can be further applied to other microstrip lines widely used in monolithic microwave integrated circuits (MMICs) applications.

Nonlinear refractive indices n/sub 2/ of two push-pull azobenzene doped polymer materials have been measured using the single beam Z-scan method. The value of sample B is as high as 1.7/spl times/10/sup 6/ cm/sup 2//W, and is nearly two orders of magnitude larger than that of sample A. The self-phase modulation pattern of sample B has been observed using very low incident laser intensity. The origins of the large nonlinear optical response of the two doped polymer materials are discussed.
